The death of Nicholas Ivie: Was it friendly fire?

US border guard, Nicholas Ivie
US border guard, Nicholas Ivie, was recently killed whilst out on patrol to stop illegal immigrants from Mexico earlier this week. The FBI are currently investigating the possibility of it being a case of friendly fire. The shooting happened in Naco,Arizona on Tuesday and left Nicholas Ivie dead and another unnamed agent wounded. Ivie was shot after he and two other agents responded to a tripped ground sensor near the border.

The above is a small paragraph from the BBC News website. This incident is showing some similarities to the recent story about G4S guard Danny Fitzsimons. I know it's not exactly the same but just as there was with this incident, there was a case of "friendly fire" during the G4S killings and this incident, the only difference with the border guard death is the fact that the friendly fire accusation cannot be proven straight away.

I am still sat here wondering how the hell the US Government and UK security company, G4S made the mistake to employ a killer in the first place, especially G4S as it was reported that they were warned about his previous convictions  before taking him on and it looked to me that they chose to ignore them! companies in this sort of work need to be more thorough with the checks that they do. However, it looks like that the death of Nicholas was an accident due to an ambush but the FBI can't be certain. The FBI special agent in charge of the operation, James Turgal Jr. has said the following

"There are strong preliminary indications that the death of United States Border Patrol Agent Nicholas J Ivie and the injury to a second agent was the result of an accidental shooting incident involving only the agents"

Mr Turgal did not elaborate as to why the FBI came to this conclusion, adding only that "all necessary investigative, forensic and analytical resources" were being used in the investigation".

Since the shooting, the injured agent has been released from the hospital and two suspects in Ivies death have been arrested during a Mexican military operation but so far there has been no evidence to link either of them to the shooting.

Now this has happened lets all hope that for everyones sake that whoever did do this brought to justice soon and the US and British government pay more attention when carrying out criminal record checks and things of that nature.
