Is Sally Roberts really fit for motherhood?

I’ve decided it’s about time that I give my opinion on the whole situation regarding the 7 year old boy who has a cancer tumor which his mother is refusing treatment for.

When I first heard this on the news the other night, the first thing that popped into my head is exactly what the title says! what sort of mother would let her child suffer through a possibly fatal cancer tumour that is on the brain of all places and refuse treatment? according to BBC News, the mother doesn’t want her child to go through radiotherapy because she fears that there may be some long term side effects from it!

Lets just sit and think about this for a second, If you were the parent of that child would you rather take the risks of long term damage from the radiotherapy but possibly have your child survive the cancer or would you rather refuse the treatment and have your child die at the age of seven?! To be fair, I can sort of see where the mother is coming from and I can also see why she may be scared of what the side effects could be of having the radiotherapy but if she really loved her child, which I can clearly see that she does then she would forget about that fear and do the right thing.

The boys father has agreed to treatment and has applied for rights so that Neon (the boy) can live with him during the treatment which I believe is the best thing for everyone. According to BBC News, the family high court are going to come to a decision today as to if Neon will undergo treatment but as far as living arrangements for treatment is concerned I have not got any further information on that.

A doctor told the courts that“We have always said there are side effects and I do understand the family's anxiety, but it does not reflect the risk-benefit balance."

In my opinion this makes the decision of the court even easier after being told that radiotherapy could give Neon a better chance of surviving the court and Sally should both come to a joint decision to allow the treatment to go ahead despite the “brain altering side effects” described by Dr A as he is called in the original article. If any developments should occur surrounding this topic I will post another article giving my opinion on the decision made by the court.

***UPDATE***
A high court judge has ruled that 7 year old Neon Roberts will have radiotherapy to treat his brain tumor! I'm so happy! I will give my opinion about this tomorrow!

  1. Maybe your opinion is bias? Do you know anything about alternative medicines, then that way you can give a valid opinion because you have both sides of the story....or more pieces to the puzzle.
