Apple encounter unusual problems with new maps service

On Friday, the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook issued an apology to all Iphone users who are encountering problems with the latest update to the mapping service. As Apple roll out the Iphone 5, they also released a new update called IOS 6, the highly awaited update to the Iphone interface. Users complained that the new maps service contained geographical errors, information gaps and lacked in what made Google maps so popular such as public transit data, directions and street view.

To be honest, I really wasn't expedcting to see this in my Google Alerts email when I woke up this morning! although it is extremely rare for Apple to have any problems with it's software, I still think that there shouldn't have been a problem in the first place and lets be honest and admit that I am not the only one. To quote Cook:

"We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better,” Cook said in a letter to customers released on its Web site, adding that the company “fell short” of its commitment to deliver “the best experience possible to our customers.”

An apology is all well and good but can you imagine what could have happened if Apple and Iphone users hadn't spotted the problem early on? people could have ended up somewhere they have never even heard of and could have been seriously injured! what would have Apple done then? given them a months worth of free song downloads?! that would have been just insulting to be honest. I imagine we are all thinking the same thing here, Apple should run a thorough check on every update before they send it out! Tonight I am looking forward to hearing Nick Abbot's opinion on this subject on LBC tonight and if you have something to say about this then post a comment below the post and I will do my best to reply.
