Firstly as with all articles around topics like this, I would like to offer my complete condolences to the families and friends of everyone that tragically died as a result of the shooting.
Now the one question that is on everyone’s mind, even in the UK where I am, is what exactly is president Obama going to do about these shootings to stop things like this ever happening again? The one thing that he could do to at least minimise gun crime in America is to ban guns and abolish concealed gun licences. I think that the only people that should be allowed to carry guns are the armed forces and the police because they are using their weapons to protect their country and without them they could end up dead. However, over here in the UK ordinary police don’t carry guns as we have a special team called CO19 or SO19 which are the equivalent to the American SWAT teams and ordinary police officers in America.
I think that the British police manage fine without carrying a firearm. Obviously, they carry other weapons like Batons and CS sprays to protect themselves as well as the even more obvious handcuffs and they manage to uphold the law in most cases so why should American police have to carry guns when they have the exact same equipment as us?
President Obama has started talking about the idea of having required background checks before being able to purchase a firearm but what happens if someone passes their background checks with no criminal record or no mental or physical problems and then one day their wife/girlfriend breaks up with them and possibly takes their children with them and then the said person goes completely insane and wants to exact revenge on their partners? I guarantee that the first thing they would reach for is their gun because they know that is what would cause the most damage! if Obama really doesn’t want another tragedy like the shooting in Connecticut then he needs to do the right thing for his country and ban guns for civilians altogether!
Now onto my thoughts about the gunman, to start off with, why would he even think about going to a local elementary school where his mum works and shooting loads of innocent children and adults? and secondly, why didn’t he be a man and face up to his actions rather than be a coward and shoot himself? frankly, I find it disgusting that he actually shot all of those children who hadn’t even experienced life yet! and the fact that they hadn’t actually done anything wrong was even worse, all they done was get up in the morning and go to school just like they did everyday and this coward of a man came and killed them just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time! this goes for the teachers as well of course.
If the man had a problem with his mother then he should have sorted it out privately with her if he so chose to do so and he should have done it in a private setting! what he shouldn’t of done was murder children and other teachers that had nothing to do with whatever was going on in his life!
Before I finish this article, I would just like to commend the actions of one of the teachers at the school. This teacher hid all of her students in the cupboard to save them and when the gunman confronted her she tried to convince the gunman that they were in another part of the school and because of that, the lives of her pupils were saved and she paid the price and took the bullet for them. This by far one of the bravest acts I have come across this year and although she died saving those children, I imagine that she died happily knowing that she lived a happy life and that she had given those children another chance to experience the life that she had. To that I say well done and thank God that you were in school that day.
Lets all hope that Obama changes the law regarding gun licences and sees this as a reason for doing that.
Once again, R.I.P to all of the victims of this cowardly and tragic act of murder and violence and once again, my complete condolences to the families of those victims.
