Video games violence - Here we go again!

Yet again, the argument about Videogames, young people and violence is starting up. As a gamer myself, I think that some of the points that are bought up during debates about this topic are very good and some are just stupid and not relevent to the discussion. The one thing that annoys me more than anything during these debates is the fact that most of the time, the people on the panel don't have any experiance in the gaming or media industry! they always say that violent videogames like UFC encourage a violent reaction just by someone accidentally bumping into you at the train station or at school and they don't because the people that play those games know not to start a fight with somone for no reason.

I must admit that some 18 rated games, like Grand Theft Auto 4 for instance are terrible when it comes to violence and inapropriate content for people below that age. However, I do blame the parents when it comes to GTA because they let their children below the age of 18 play these games and even buy the game for them. Even my little brothers' nine year old friend plays Grand Theft Auto and gets the wrong idea about how to behave in real life and around real people.

I am 14 and do play 15 rated games but that doesn't matter because for starters I am mature enough to know not to smack somone round the face because they bumped into me and I can also identify the difference between games and reality which most younger children cannot do.

However, I sometimes think that some games that get 18 certificates don't deserve them. This might be because I am not allowed 18 games, which is a good decision made by my parents now I think about it! one of the games I think should be lowered to a 15 is Call Of Duty: Black Ops, the reason behind this is the fact that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare is a lot more violent than Black Ops and the game has a 15 certificate! The only really violent bit in Black Ops is probably in the beginning of the game when you are getting tortured for information, I know that when you read that line you think "Jesus Christ, that's a bit heavy" and yes, in some respects it is but 15 year old tennagers wouldn't exactly have nightmares over that will they? lets be honest most kids my age have watched all of the Saw movies, all of the Paranormal Activity Movies and probably not been bothered.

I think it's about time that hosts of talk shows get people that actually know about this stuff rather than get Alan titchmarsh and other strange people that don't have a clue what they are talking about! all these people do is blind you with statistics that they plucked from the air! this is exactly what happens when you start an argument about young people, all they ever do is stereotype  have you ever heard of the expression "don't judge a book by its cover"? well the same expression applies when it comes to young people and video games! it's about time the adults learnt that!

RANT OVER!
